Pothole of Kobalar's Bug
Explanation of Name

   We named the pothole after the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata)
respectively the story associated with it.
   Mihael Velušček, known as Miha Kobalar, owned a farm on the eastern side of the Hill Korada, extending from the Soča River to the border river Idrija. The farm was so large that he had the right to his own hunting on it. It was demolished after the 1976 earthquake. Kobalar's farm was a remote and important base and refuge for partisans. He had some children, including a son. More about him below.
   Shortly after World War II, the new Slovenian government declared the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata) a state enemy and announced its extermination. People were sent to the potato fields to collect and destroy the beetle, including in the Soča area. The beetle had not yet been found in the area and people did not even know what it looked like or what to collect. Miha's son, unfortunately I do not know his name, went to the Friul plain and found the beetle there, put it in a matchbox and brought it home. He showed it to people and this did not go unnoticed. A man loyal to the authorities reported him, because importing and displaying a national enemy had to be punished. He was indeed imprisoned. Miha got angry, went to Plave in the middle of the night on a train straight to Ivan Maček, Matija to Ljubljana, who was then "a big shot". Matija knew Miha as a partisan patron and collaborator and accepted him. Miha complained about his son's imprisonment. Matija knew nothing about it, he went to another office and asked how and what by phone. He returned and told him: "Miha, your son will be at home before you".
   I told this story to the Members of the Ljubljana Caving Society, they liked it, and we named the pothole after the beetle.
